The Gaze Beneath the Tallit

Face on, the tallit over his head and the tefillin on his forehead, the Rebbe looks straight into the eyes of whoever stops before the drawing. The white of the shawl draws an arch around the face; the background, worked in a dense grain, vibrates like ancient stone. His hands, folded over the straps of the tefillin, anchor the portrait in the time of prayer.
